Wildflowers of the Esperance Region
During the months of June until September the Esperance Wildflower season comes into full bloom. A large variety of species can be identified during this season including native orchids, banskias and a myriad of other species.

Great Ocean Drive and Observatory Point –This is a self drive trip anyone can embark on at a time and date of their choice. A 38km round trip from Esperance town centre to Pink Lake and on through a variety of vegetatin types from deep sand to elevated limestone coastal headlands, sheltered dunes and exposed heaths provide wonderful vistas of seasonal natural flora both large and small, passing the Wind Farm and returning to the townsite via Wireless Hill.
Rotary Lookout/Walk-Trail – For 360 degree views of land and seascapes. Several species of flowereing Eucalypts, Dryandras, Twining Clematis, Australian Blubell, Fringe Lilies in early summer, Pimelea, Agonis, Hakea can be enjoyed throughout the seasons.
Helms Arboretum –on Coolgardie/Esperance Highway 17kms north of Esperance. A huge reserve where large expanses of natural bushland are accessible by gravel roads. There are also hundreds of named plantations containing Western Australian trees plus Australian species from other states as well as some exotic pine species. These will all flower at the specific time of year for each species. Red Flowering Gum and Tallerack in summer, Silver Princess late winter, Showy Banksia spring, Royal Hakea is showy all year round. There are ample opportunites to indulge in photography and bird observing, as well as a great place for a picnic lunch or afternoon tea.
Monjingup Lake Reserve – Walk trails, BBQ and picnic facilities, Telegraph Rd 14kms from Esperance off the South Coast Highway. Also a great spot for bird watching.
Kepwari Wetland Walk Trail – 5 min drive from centre of Esperance (turn into Windabout Way off Fisheries Road), one-way walking trail is 3.6kms, designed to be a learning experience. Many orchids can be seen here. Boardwalks through the paperbarks, rest areas and fauna. Great views!
Cape Le Grand National Park – 56kms East of Esperance, $10.00 entry fee per car, all sealed roads, plenty of walk trails, camping fees apply.
Stokes National Park – approx 80kms West of Esperance on the Ravensthorpe Rd, Heritage Trail allow 1.5 hours return – 4.3kms easy walk, $10.00 entry fee per car, camping fees apply.
Orleans Bay and Wharton beach area. A local’s favourite for wildflower spotting. 80kms East off Fisheries or Merivale Road, past the Cape Le Grand National Park. Caravan Park located on the beach. Superb place for wildflowers.
Mount Ridley – 1 hour north of Esperance. Dempster Road (off Fisheries Road). Gravel pits alongside of road are full of wildflowers. Mount Ridley has picnic areas, and our own wave rock. 4wd in winter months required.
THE BEST WAY TO SEE THE WILDFLOWERS IS TO PARK YOUR CAR AND EXPLORE ON FOOT!!
