Tours Esperance

Learn how plants survive and appreciate them up close on a botany photowalk at Helms Arboretum

Western Australia supports incredible plant diversity with some 13,000 species. South-western Australia is an internationally recognised hot spot. Our plants also persist in harsh conditions. The flora of Esperance withstands high winds, bushfire, and variable climate. Plants are remarkable in many ways!

Another challenge to the persistence of plants is land use. Helms Arboretum is a patchwork of Australian planted natives, pine trees and naturally occurring indigenous species. It is a complex botanical wonderland that despite its use for agriculture (or maybe even because of!) has retained a plethora of indigenous plants, including endangered shrublands.

Learn how plants survive and appreciate them up close on a botany photowalk. On the walk, I will teach you how plants survive and flourish, and how to best capture their beauty, whether it be on your phone’s camera or a DSLR. Leave Helms better than we found it by removing South African Weed Orchid (Disa bracteata) together!

Please note we can confirm a tour for just one person at $180, but if two people or more are going, the price is $90 per person.

You will meet Kelsey, the tour operator, at Helms Arboretum (no pick up available)
